BOSTON – Alex and Ani LLC has filed suit in U.S. District Court in Boston against Northeast Diamond and Casting Co. for making, importing and selling jewelry that allegedly infringe on the Cranston-based lifestyle brand’ patents, according to a story in the Boston Herald.

The suit alleges that Northeast, which does business as Northeast Jewelers and NORI Fundraising Concepts, based in North Attleboro, has been marketing the bracelets as fundraising tools for schools and nonprofits in the region.

The Herald quoted Alex and Ani CEO Giovanni Feroce saying Northeast “knows darn well that we have our own Charity by Design division that has given away millions of dollars in a very programmatic way.”

Northeast Jewelers has been an authorized Alex and Ani retail partner until last August, according to the Herald.

The Herald spoke with Christopher Wynn, whom it identified as a manager at Northeast, who was quoted as saying “on closer inspection, our bracelets aren’t the same as Alex and Ani.”
