LINCOLN – The Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce and North Central Chamber of Commerce have merged.
The chambers are operating under the name of Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, according to President and CEO John C. Gregory, who said the boards at each chamber approved the merger.
In a Jan. 6 letter about the merger, Gregory said it will benefit all chamber members and provide more opportunities to network, as well as additional educational and informational events to attend.
He said the chamber is now the largest in Rhode Island, and encompasses 13 communities – Burrillville, Central Falls, Cumberland, Foster, Glocester, Johnston, Lincoln, North Providence, North Smithfield, Pawtucket, Scituate, Smithfield and Woonsocket.
Previously, the Northern Rhode Island Chamber served Burrillville, Central Falls, Cumberland, Lincoln, North Smithfield, Pawtucket and Woonsocket, while the North Central Chamber of Commerce served Johnston, North Providence, Smithfield, Scituate, Foster and Glocester.
Going forward, he said staff responsibilities will be realigned, and additional employees will be hired. Gregory also noted that it was 25 years ago when the Blackstone Valley Chamber and Greater Woonsocket Chamber merged to form the previous Northern Rhode Island Chamber.
