Northern R.I. Chamber of Commerce announces award winners

LINCOLN – Central Falls Mayor James A. Diossa and Brian and Roberta Hunter from Lincoln will receive awards at the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce’s 25th annual dinner.
Diossa will receive the Barbara C. Burlingame award. The award, established in 2003, goes each year to an elected official in the state who has gone above and beyond in their contributions to the business community while in the public service arena. Since taking office as mayor, Diossa has taken measures to boost the Central Falls economy and to breathe life back into what the city has to offer. Such efforts included founding an annual restaurant week as well as joining forces with Pawtucket to create a shared emergency management agency and housing inspector.
The Ben G. Mondor award will be presented to Brian and Roberta Hunter of Hunt Insurance Inc. at the event. The award, established in 2011 to honor the former owner of the Pawtucket Red Sox, will recognize the Hunts for their philanthropy within the state. The pair has taken on many projects in Rhode Island and has donated to places such as the Family Literacy Center and the Northern Rhode Island Food Pantry. They have also gotten involved with fundraising for the Scleroderma Research Foundation.
Larry Lucchino, chairman of the Pawtucket Red Sox and president/CEO emeritus of the Boston Red Sox, will be the keynote speaker at the Feb. 9 event. The event will be held at the Twin River Event Center with networking at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner and the awards presentation.
