OHIC files draft regulations for plans

Posted 12/3/12

PROVIDENCE – R.I. Health Insurance Commissioner Christopher F. Koller filed new proposed regulations for health insurance plans, including those health plans to be offered under the new R.I. Health Benefits Exchange.

Under the proposed regulations, any individual or small group market plans, including qualified health plans to be sold on the Exchange between Jan. 1, 2012 and Dec. 31, 2014, will need to be filed with the Commissioner’s office on or before March 1, 2013.

A hearing is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m. at the R.I. Department of Labor and Training on the proposed regulations.

The new regulations seek to have the filing and review of health insurance forms and rates conform to policies, procedures and requirements of the federal health care reform law, according to OHIC.
