Ocean State Job Lot donates apparel

NORTH KINGSTOWN – Ocean State Job Lot donated $30,000 worth of ladies’ cold weather apparel to My Brother’s Keeper, a Southeastern Massachusetts-based ministry, on Nov. 11.
The donation was made at the Job Lot corporate warehouse at 375 Commerce Park Road in the Quonset Business Park, where Erich Miller, president of My Brother’s Keeper, received enough pallets of merchandise to fill two 16-foot box trucks.
Ladies’ gloves, maternity dresses, winter-weight dresses, winter-weight skirts, cardigans, knit-top hoodies, warm-up suits, sleepwear, and lounge pants were just some of the items donated. They will be distributed throughout more than 80 towns in southeastern Massachusetts and beyond.
My Brother’s Keeper is a Christian ministry with locations in Easton and Dartmouth, Mass. Founded in 1988 by the couple Jim and Terry Orcutt, the nonprofit delivers furniture, clothing and food to families in need.
Anyone living in the ministry’s service area is eligible to receive help, Miller said.
“We are at 100 percent capacity with requests for assistance,” said Miller. “So we are extremely grateful to Ocean State Job Lot for its generosity.”
The need extends beyond My Brother’s Keeper’s original service area into other regions of Massachusetts like Haverhill and Harwich, he said.
“We know there are many people in the local community who are struggling to make ends meet,” said David Sarlitto, marketing executive at Ocean State Job Lot.
“Particularly when the temperature drops here in New England, trying to stay warm becomes an added financial burden. Ocean State Job Lot has a long history of helping families and individuals in a variety of ways, and with this donation, we hope to be able to make the winter months more comfortable and bearable for those who have reached out to My Brother’s Keeper for some assistance,” he said.
