One year from now, Rhode Island will elect a new governor. Who will you vote for?

Posted 11/9/09

Last week, New Jersey and Virginia elected new Republican governors. In a year, Rhode Island will fill the governor’s seat with someone new, as Gov. Donald L. Carcieri runs up against his two-term limit.

At the moment, there are two serious Democratic candidates, General Treasurer Frank T. Caprio and Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch. A Republican, Rory Smith, has also said he will run. And although he has not officially declared his candidacy, former Sen. Lincoln Chafee is likely to enter the race as well.

Are any of these three a candidate you could support, or would you rather have someone else be the state’s next governor?

What a shame if P. Lynch is even able to run for Gov. , never mind "win". He is the ultimate insider. We have enough problems in RI. Lynch brings a know-it-all attitude at a time where we need real leadership. His handling of the Station Fire was horendous. And, his ethical lapses regarding Resource Recovery will ultimately doom his run for any office in the future ----- thankfully.

Are you kidding? One unknown Republican....as usual! Three flaming idiots on the Democratic side who only have one thing in mind...their ego and their pockets. Caprio didn't impress anyone with his investment strategy during the beginning of this recession. Chafee has to go away...PLEASE!!! And Patrick Lynch couldn't do justice to the Station Fire families or even that boondogle leftover from Sheldon Whitebread...the Lead Paint Trial! Please, would all of you people just go away and crawl under your piles of money?

The only person with the testicular fortitude to straighten out this state is Laffey. Big mouth, more brains than the four fools above put together, knows the investment world, and he's got a track record of saving Cranston from the poor house. If he was our next Governor, the Democrats in the House and Senate would really know they were in trouble with him. No fooling around...no back room deals, no lobby folks paying gobs of money to Democratic blood suckers.

I wonder why Murphy is on his way out? Maybe he sees what is going to "hit the fan" and he's too pretty to be covered by the residue. He's going to step aside....put Fox in the Speaker's seat and head for Wakefield Hill!

RI could be the shining star of the East Coast if we could just get somebody in the Governor's seat that isn't afraid to throw a punch or "be in your face"! But, not until the voters wake up.

Ditto: as Dick from Coventry so eloquently put it:

"The only person with the testicular fortitude to straighten out this state is Laffey. Big mouth, more brains than the four fools above put together, knows the investment world, and he's got a [good} track record "

I do think that the other “Big mouth” that might be able to hit back in the brawl is Joe Trillo, together brains and brawn might put RI back on the surface of the East Coast rather than down in the financial and the political sewer!
