PACP votes to end operations

TURLOCK, Calif. – Dr. Elmano Costa, president of the Portuguese American Citizenship Project’s board of directors, announced on Aug. 31 that the board voted to end operations and dissolve the organization.

Project founder and director from 1999 to 2009, Jim McGlinchey, said he was very proud of the grass-roots political work the organization had achieved within the community.

“We are honored to have worked with countless Portuguese American leaders in the churches and clubs, who are dedicated to promoting citizenship and civic involvement in the Portuguese American community. Their largely unsung work began long before the project started and will no doubt continue long after the project is forgotten,” he added.

The organization aided in efforts to promote American citizenship and voter registration among Portuguese residents in Rhode Island as well as immigrant communities throughout California, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Jersey over the past 16 years.
