PROVIDENCE – In light of Hurricane Sandy, Providence Business News has decided to postpone the Summit on Employers and Education to Wednesday, Nov. 7.
The summit, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30, will still take place at the Crown Plaza Hotel Providence-Warwick, in the Rotunda, from 8 – 11 a.m., with registration at 7:30 a.m.
“Our sponsors and panelists are all very understanding, if not relieved,” said PBN Marketing & Events Director Nancy J. Adeszko.
“The scope of Sandy – with high winds through the early hours of Tuesday and projected power outages – made this necessary,” said Adeszko, adding that the new date “allows us enough distance from the storm and its aftermath, and we expect a sold-out crowd.”
Topics on tap include how secondary and higher education can better connect with the workplace and how businesses can partner with educator to improve public education.
Panelists who had committed for the initial date included Bryant University President Ronald K. Rachtley; University of Rhode Island President David M. Dooley; Community College of Rhode Island President and Higher Education Comissioner Ray DiPasquale; Brandon Melton of Lifespan and the Governor’s Workforce Development Board; Andrea Castaneda, R.I. Department of Education chief of accelerating school performance; Steve Adams of Taylor Duane Barton & Gilman; Pierre LaPerriere of Gilbane Inc.; Steven Kitchin of the New England Institute of Technology; Tim Herbert of Atrion Networking; Charles P. Kelley of the R.I. Student Loan Authority and Dennis Littky from The Met School.
