PROVIDENCE – A man walked into Providence Business News’ offices Thursday, Aug. 25, and stole credit cards and a driver’s license from an employee’s work station.

In a closed-circuit video feed, embedded below, the man is seen exiting the elevator at PBN’s 400 Westminster St. offices in Providence, scanning the corridor, noting that the employee was not in the office, then proceeding into the unlocked office. Seconds later, the man is seen exiting with a wallet in hand and calling the elevator. With the elevator door still open, the man is seen examining the contents of the wallet.

After nearly a minute, the man exits the elevator, which has not moved, and returning with the wallet, then proceeds back to the still-unoccupied office. When he has to wait for the elevator to return to PBN’s floor, the man is seen looking individually at the employee’s credit cards and driver’s license. Moments later, he enters the elevator and then heads down.

Providence police came to PBN’s offices, took a report and photographed a still image taken from the security camera. The embedded video feed became available Monday. Less than 5 minutes elapsed from the time the man exited the elevator until he exited the office.

Providence Police spokeswoman Lindsay Lague said that the department was investigating the case, but as of Monday afternoon, there was no update. She added that the department had not seen any robberies like this one in the city. She added that anyone with information related to the robbery should call the police at (401) 272-3121.
