PC names gifts director; hires assistant deans

PROVIDENCE – Providence College has hired a new director of major gifts, an assistant dean and director of multicultural student success, and named two new assistant deans of admission.
William F. O’Neil, of Providence, is director of major gifts in the Office of Institutional Advancement. In his new role, O’Neil will oversee the management of the major gifts program, which is charged with managing relationships and securing support from donors. Prior to this, he held a comparable position at Connecticut College.
Ralph Tavares, of Middletown, is now assistant dean/director of multicultural student success in the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies. Tavares will work with the college’s multicultural scholarship recipients and all multicultural students to link them to resources and help them succeed.
Prior to being hired, he was an associate director of undergraduate admissions and multicultural education at Salve Regina University.
Owen Bligh of Boston and Matt Maurano of North Providence were promoted in admissions after having served as senior admission counselors.
Bligh will be responsible for communications planning, social media strategy, national recruitment, and collaborating with PC Athletics for the Office of Admission. Maurano will be responsible for coordinating the Admission Ambassadors, international recruitment in Europe, Canada, and Africa, and assisting men’s lacrosse and women’s tennis teams. •
