PROVIDENCE – The Providence Public Library’s first annual Rhode Island Independent Publishing Expo is set for Aug. 2 and 3 from noon to 6 p.m. at the library at 150 Empire St.

The free, public expo is a weekend festival intended to celebrate self-published comics, books and zines, as well as underground and small press artists, on a local and international scale.

Special guests include Providence-based cartoonist Mickey Zacchilli and Mothers News editor Jacob Khepler. Out-of town guests include Lale Westvind, Leah Wishnia, and Suzy X , all of New York and Sophie Yanow of Montreal.

Talks, panel discussions, film screenings, exhibitions and social events will be announced on the library website as the date for the expo nears. Vendors will be selling books, comics, prints and affordable artwork.
