PPS seeks nominations for Most Endangered Properties List

PROVIDENCE – The Providence Preservation Society is accepting nominations for its annual Most Endangered Properties List for 2017.
PPS encourages community spirit and historical preservation through recognition of endangered properties and problem-solving. “The Most Endangered List provides a springboard for discussion and action around threatened properties and their threats,” states the society on its website. By releasing a list of endangered properties, the properties gain public exposure, and the society hopes to receive new ideas from preservationists, new, old and aspiring.
Not all nominated properties are saved despite their historical significance or community nostalgia, but some are and have made a comeback. Such properties include The Arcade (1828), The Columbus Theater (1926) and The David Sprague House (1839).
Past nominees range in age, size and style. In the end, what matters is that the building is important to its neighborhood and the society encourages nominations of buildings that matter to residents.
Nominations are being accepted until Sept. 5. The full list of MEP will be revealed at the PPS annual meeting in January. Those interested can visit the PPS website, www.ppsri.org, to nominate a building or to learn more about the project.
