CRANSTON – The second annual golf tournament for the Lt. Jim Pagano Foundation held at the Alpine Country Club on Aug. 12 generated more than $18,000 for community children.
One hundred and twenty golfers participated in the tournament with more than 200 guests in attendance for the awards dinner.
The proceeds from the inaugural tournament in 2012 were granted to community youth sports programs. This year, the foundation will grant funds to qualifying academic programs in the community.
Lisa Pagano, on behalf of the Pagano family, welcomed participants, saying, “Our hope is to grow the foundation to where we can make a significant impact on the community, the community that was so generous to our family in our time of need. It is now time for us to pay it forward by supporting the children in our community with character-building programs that promote courage, confidence, and character. These kids are our future heroes and leaders.”
The first place foursome was comprised of Richard Falcone, Peter Germani, Ken Cascella, and Ralph DeAngelis. Closest to Hole prize went to Bruno Paglia. Winners of the Long Drive contest were Rick Crowley (men) and Daria Delfino (ladies).
The event was sponsored by the Cranston Firefighters Union 1363, Sports Illustrated/Golf Magazine, Wrights Farm, and Carpet City. Viti Mercedes provided a Mercedes 350 Sedan for the hole-in one prize on the sixth hole, and a set of TaylorMade irons was provided by Golfers’ Warehouse.
The Lt. Jim Pagano Foundation was established in 2012 in memory of the slain Cranston firefighter. Its mission is to make charitable grants to individuals, groups and organizations that improve the quality of life for children, and foster character building and a strong foundation for their future.
