Panera Bread to benefit ‘mobility ride’

CRANSTON – The Panera Bread outlet at 5 New London Ave. is holding a special Raise the Dough fundraiser on Feb. 2 to benefit Benjamin McDermott’s “mobility ride.”
Slated for 5 to 7 p.m., the event is being held to provide 10 percent of all sales during that time toward securing a wheelchair-accessible van for the McDermott family, whose 8-year-old son Benjamin suffers from spinal muscular atrophy.
The first 100 customers who make a purchase toward the so-called “B’s Mobility Ride” will receive a “mystery” Panera gift card with values up to and including $200. There is a limit of one gift card per customer, who must be present to receive the card. A cookie decorating station for families and raffle prizes also will be featured.
“Panera Warwick recently held a Raise the Dough preview party, which raised thousands of dollars for B’s Mobility Ride, so we decided to build on that momentum to improve Benjamin’s quality of life,” said Kimmy Rose, the outlet’s marketing manager. “Here at Panera Cranston, we focus on providing the very best experience for our guests while giving back to the community we serve. Benjamin is a neighbor in need so we wanted to do our part.”
Panera Bread’s overall mission is to help Benjamin and his family reach their goal with a variety of fundraising events that will be scheduled in the area. The next fundraiser for B’s Mobility Ride will be a book signing by best-selling New York Times author Jenna Blum at the Panera in East Greenwich on Feb. 24.
