PROVIDENCE – Partridge Snow & Hahn LLP is growing again, this time adding nine attorneys as it opens a Boston office. The new attorneys are former members of Craig and Macauley, a Boston-based firm, including two of the founders. Four of the new members of PSH will join on May 1 as partners, while three will assume roles as senior counsels and two as associates.

David M. Gilden, managing partner of Partridge Snow & Hahn, said in an interview with Providence Business News that he sees the new staff adding “depth at a fairly senior level … particularly in commercial litigation and business law. … Having this particular group of nine outstanding attorneys is just a tremendous positive result for us.”

The addition of the new lawyers brings the firm total to 57, with 31 partners and 26 associates and of counsel. PSH ranked as the third largest firm in Rhode Island in PBN’s 2014 Book of Lists. In addition to the nine attorneys, the firm’s new Financial District office will include three support staff, bring the company-wide total payroll to 72.

Christopher Panos, currently managing shareholder of Craig and Macauley and one of the lawyers joining PSH as a partner, said in a statement that “we are very excited to join such a dynamic and successful firm. … The culture of excellence and client service at Partridge Snow & Hahn is a natural fit for us.” Panos will be the partner-in-charge of the Boston office.

Gilden said the addition of a Boston office is part of a long-term plan to grow the company’s presence in Massachusetts. The firm added a New Bedford office in 2003 and a Westborough branch in 2010. He estimated that about 30 percent of the firm’s business in 2013 was in Massachusetts and that percentage is growing.

“We believe we will be able to attract more business in the Massachusetts market by having a Boston presence,” Gilden said. He emphasized that the Boston office will not take away from what the firm already does in the Bay State. The new office will “only enhance what we do in [the other Massachusetts] offices. … It also helps us to recruit additional attorneys for all of those offices,” he said, pointing out that many attorneys live in New Bedford or Westborough, or even Providence, and like being able to have an office in Boston in addition to one closer to home. He also said that PSH would continue to recruit new attorneys for all four of the firm’s offices. “We recruit all the time.”

Gilden added that it is “a very exciting time for us as a firm. It’s the first time we have brought on a large group like this. … It is fun to be part of this enterprise.”
