Passenger traffic at T.F. Green improves in March

WARWICK – Passenger traffic at T.F. Green Airport rose 4.6 percent in March compared with March 2012 to 335,578, according to numbers released Thursday by the R.I. Airport Corporation.

Year-to-date, the number of passengers both enplaning and deplaning fell 0.8 percent, or 7,080 passengers, to 836,923.

Of the five airlines with the largest share of passenger traffic at T.F. Green – Southwest Airlines (52.1 percent), US Airways (21.5 percent), Delta Airlines (10.2 percent), United Airlines (8.6 percent) or JetBlue Airways (7.6 percent) – Both Southwest and US Airways saw increases in the number of total passengers in March.

Southwest saw traffic tick up by 1,998 passengers, or 1.16 percent year over year in March, while US Airways saw passenger traffic rise 1.6 percent during the same period. JetBlue, which did not fly into or out of T.F. Green in March 2012, had a March 2013 total of 25,441.

The biggest drop in traffic was recorded by Delta, which saw an 8.5 percent decline to 34,166 passengers. United Airlines saw traffic fall 5 percent to 28,723.

At the same time, the amount of cargo that was loaded and unloaded at RIAC facilities increased 15.8 percent in March over a year earlier to 2.2 million pounds. Similarly, cargo increased 14.1 percent in the first three months of the year to 5.9 million pounds.
