Passenger traffic drops at T.F. Green Airport in February

WARWICK – Passenger traffic at T.F. Green Airport dropped in February by 5.7 percent, the R.I. Airport Corporation reported Friday.

The drop reversed January’s uptick in passengers, which was the first time an increase was reported in three years.

A total of 219,250 passengers were reported at T.F. Green in February, compared with 232,370 in February 2014. Year to date, there have been 463,144 passengers, a nearly 2 percent drop from the prior-year period when 472,182 passengers were recorded.

Southwest Airlines held the largest market share at the airport in February at 47.1 percent, followed by US Airways at 24 percent, Delta Airlines at 11 percent, JetBlue Airways at 9.5 percent, United Airlines at 7.8 percent, and charter flights, at 0.6 percent.

US Airways experienced the greatest drop in passengers year over year at 13.4 percent to 52,639. United Airlines was not far behind with a 13.3 percent decline to 17,012. Southwest, with 103,231 passengers, experienced a 4 percent drop in February compared with a year ago.
JetBlue, however, reported a nearly 5 percent increase in passengers, to 20,893, and Delta also showed growth, with a nearly 3 percent increase to 24,056.

Cargo increased 4 percent to 1.9 million lbs. compared with 1.8 million lbs. during February 2014. Year to date, cargo has fallen 3 percent to 3.9 million lbs. from 4 million lbs. during the prior-year period.
