Passenger traffic falls slightly at T.F. Green in 2015

PROVIDENCE – Passenger traffic fell slightly last year at T.F. Green Airport, but increased for the month of December, according to the R.I. Airport Corp.
Yearly passenger traffic totaled 3,566,105, a drop of 0.02 percent, or 664 passengers, compared with 2014’s 3,566,769.
In December, traffic rose 1.8 percent to 286,139 from 280,976 in December 2014.
Among the major carriers, JetBlue had the largest increase over the year at 5.6 percent, with 281,791 passengers compared with 266,984 in 2014. JetBlue had the smallest yearly market share at 7.5 percent.
Southwest Airlines reported an increase of 2.2 percent, with 1,661,700 passengers compared with 1,626,728 in 2014. Southwest held the largest market share at the airport last year with 45.6 percent.
United Airlines, American Airlines and Delta Airlines all reported passenger declines in 2015 compared with 2014, according to information from the airport corporation.
United had the largest drop, at 5.2 percent, to 298,198 passengers from 314,666 the year before. American followed with a 5 percent decrease, to 831,937 from 876,000, and Delta had a 3.3 percent decline, to 444,360 from 459,598.
In December, Southwest had the largest increase in passenger traffic at 4.5 percent, to 138,578 from 132,597. Delta had the greatest drop for the month at 8.2 percent, to 33,262 from 36,237.
Cargo fell 1.1 percent in 2015 to 27,040,498 pounds compared with 2014’s 27,334,069 pounds.
Last week, it was announced that Kelly J. Fredericks, president and CEO of the R.I. Airport Corp., would leave his position on March 1 to become the new CEO of the Ontario International Airport Authority in California.
Peter A. Frazier, general counsel and senior vice president, has been appointed interim president and CEO, and the corporation’s board said it will conduct a national search for a new president and CEO.
