Patriots honor ShapeUp founder

FOXBORO, Mass. – The New England Patriots Charitable Foundation recently honored Shape Up RI Founder and Chairman Rajiv Kumar, M.D., with a 2012 New England Patriots Myra Kraft Community MVP recognition.
“I’m delighted to receive this … acknowledgement,” Kumar said in a statement. “It overwhelms me to look back at the last seven years and realize how far Shape Up RI has come.”
Kumar established Shape Up RI, a statewide exercise and healthy eating program based in Providence, in December 2005 while a student at Brown University’s Alpert Medical School.
Kumar received one of 10 $2,500 third-place prizes from the Patriots Charitable Foundation. In all, $100,000 in prizes were distributed 16 2012 honorees.
Award recipients were honored in a ceremony on June 13 that included appearances by Patriots players Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski and as well as Andre Tippett, Pro Football Hall of Famer and Patriots Executive Director of Community Affairs.
