PawSox look to strike out hunger

PAWTUCKET – At the PawSox game July 16 at McCoy Stadium, it will the players’ wives trying to hit one out of the park as they join forces with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank and its Striking Out Hunger initiative, a partnership of the PawSox, the Citizens Bank Foundation and Cox Communications.
Game goers who bring two new boxes of pasta as a RICFB donation will get a free autographed picture of a PawSox player. The group of participating PawSox wives will collect donations at he main entrance to the stadium.
“Striking Out Hunger has really grown to be a community-wide effort, with food drives and events that will help make sure no Rhode Islander goes hungry,” says Andrew Schiff, CEO of RICFB, in a statement..
This is the sixth year of the Striking Out Hunger Campaign, which has raised $350,000 for the Food Bank over the last five years. The financial contributions result from a $75 donation from the Citizens Bank Foundation every time a PawSox pitcher strikes out a batter, up to a total of $75,000 this year. Every dollar raised enables the Food Bank to acquire three pounds of healthy food for a family in need.
