Pawtucket Foundation offering training

PAWTUCKET – The Pawtucket Foundation and several partners will provide free counseling and training to small businesses in Pawtucket.
This month, the foundation entered a co-sponsorship agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration, Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, TD Bank, SCORE and the Center for Women & Enterprise to provide the counseling and training.
At a ceremony at City Hall, Pawtucket Foundation Executive Director Aaron Hertzberg noted that the organization has long focused on the infrastructure, property development and marketing aspects of community revitalization, but welcomed the opportunity to participate in the cultivation and growth of businesses through the training program.
“In retail markets alone, there is over $180 million in uncaptured sales potential in this area,” he explained. “By offering assistance, connecting businesses to available resources and building partnerships like the one we are formalizing today, we believe that small businesses in Pawtucket can capitalize on this opportunity.”
Under the agreement, SBA and its resource partners SCORE and the center for Women & Enterprise will provide counseling and training programs to small business owners and would-be entrepreneurs in the city.
Business topics to be presented will include accounting for non-accountants, how to write a business plan, marketing plan development, how to rebuild your credit score, determining a legal structure for your business, and how to explore government contracting opportunities. The workshops are open to the public and are offered free of charge.
The workshop sessions will be held at locations around Pawtucket. The schedule is being developed and will be announced when the details are complete.
