Pawtucket committee fills 25 bags with food

Pawtucket’s Holiday Basket Committee pledged to donate 25 backpacks filled with food during its Backpacks to Fight Hunger campaign.
The Holiday Basket Committee is a nonprofit group whose mission is to provide supplemental food sources to in-need families in the local community. Last year, the committee distributed more than 500 holiday baskets to city residents.
The Backpacks to Fight Hunger campaign is organized by Joanne Bonollo, chair of the Pawtucket School Wellness Committee, and Katherine McQuade, Pawtucket School Committee member-elect. Backpacks will be filled from donations provided by school employees and the local community.
Pawtucket’s first lady and Holiday Basket Chair Committee chair, Laureen Grebien, made the announcement about the campaign earlier this month.
“Last year, we felt compelled to help because of the huge need in our community,” Grebien said. “Our committee’s primary mission is to provide food for the hungry in our community. We are allocating our resources to support this very important city initiative.” •
