People’s Credit Union awards $4,000 in Scholarships

MIDDLETOWN – People’s Credit Union has awarded $4,000 in college scholarships to four local students: Nikoletta Evangelatos of Portsmouth, Michael Finn of Newport, Michael Flynn Jr. of Middletown and Alexandra Tougas of South Kingstown.
The students were first awarded $500 scholarships in 2008 and given the opportunity to increase that amount each year of high school. The scholarship was increased by $50 for every final grade that was an A and $25 for every final grade that was a B, throughout four years of high school. Each student received the maximum $1,000 scholarship. All recipients will begin their freshman year at their prospective universities this fall.
“All four scholarship recipients are well deserving of this award. They all had exceptional grades throughout high school and I am certain they will do well in the future. We are so happy we are able to help them achieve their career goals,” said Ellen Ford, People’s president and CEO, in a prepared statement.
Evangelatos will be studying human development at Hellenic College. Finn will be studying history at Iona College. Flynn has an undecided major at Fordham University but hopes to become a naval aviator. Tougas will be studying kinesiology at the University of Rhode Island.
