Laugh out loud
Goodwill Industries will host an evening of comedy with Bill Simas and Mike Murray on Oct. 30, starting at 7:30 at Warwick Knights of Columbus, 475 Sandy Lane, Warwick. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. and there will be a cash bar, but this event is B.Y.O.S (bring your own snacks). Tables of eight may be reserved. Cost: $20; pre-registration is required. Gills and ghouls
Families are invited to Save the Bay’s spooky aquarium on Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Save the Bay, 175 Memorial Blvd., Newport. Children will encounter ancient sea monsters like octopus, sharks and more. There will also be a scavenger hunt, story time and daily critter feedings. Gypsy jazz
The award-winning gypsy flamenco swing trio, Ameranouche, will perform at the Lippitt House Museum on Nov. 6, starting at 6:30 p.m. at The Lippitt House Museum, 199 Hope St., Providence. These veterans of the Newport Jazz Festival and Djangofest Northwest, among others, blends flamenco, bebop and jazz swing into their music. The show begins at 7 p.m. and there will be a cash bar. Cloaked in black
The Providence Public Library will host a Halloween mystery masquerade on Oct. 31 from 7:30 p.m. to midnight at the Providence Public Library, 150 Empire St., Providence. TEN31 Productions has created a mysterious story line and mesmerizing living art installations, as well as theatrical and dance performances. Guests will explore the library to gather clues, while they sip and sample signature drinks and food. The grand reveal will happen at 10:30 p.m., followed by dessert and dancing for the rest of the evening. Masks will be provided and black and white sophisticated Grecian costumes/attire are encouraged, but not required. Ticket includes all food and drink, and the Dean Hotel is offering a special stayover rate. Due to the popularity of this event, pre-registration is recommended. Sip and sample
Child & Family will host its signature event, Taste of Newport on Nov. 1 at Hotel Viking, 1 Bellevue Ave., Newport. Guests can choose between two culinary experiences, which features more than 50 local purveyors. The Taste experience will have both savory and sweet sampling stations from businesses around Newport County. This cocktail party will also have an extensive silent auction and a chance to meet with your favorite local chefs. The Dine experience will include the Taste experience, but there will be a seated dinner at 7:45 p.m., where eight of the area’s most acclaimed chefs will produce a four-course menu, paired with wines. Guests can learn about their creative processes and there will also be a live auction, featuring more than $30,000 in items.
