PROVIDENCE PLAN 20TH ANNIVERSARY
The Providence Plan will host a 20th anniversary celebration on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Roger Williams Park Casino, 1000 Elmwood Ave., Providence. The celebration honors the people and programs that have helped the organization succeed during the last 20 years. Community awards and program awards will be presented. JET PULL FOR MS SOCIETY
The Rhode Island Chapter of the National MS Society will host a jet pull from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at T.F. Green Airport, 2000 Post Road, Warwick. Teams of 25 will pull a FedEx 757 aircraft across the tarmac in one of five two-hour waves. Those who would like to participate but do not think they can create a team of 25 may register as individuals and be placed on a team. Registration: $50, plus additional $50 fundraising minimum per participant. Spectator admission: $10 adults, $5 children 12 and younger. Children younger than 3 years will be admitted for free. Spectator tickets include access to all activities and post-pull barbecue. Rain date is Sunday, Oct. 14. BIG TOAST FUNDRAISER
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State will host its annual fundraiser, The Big Toast, from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Johnson & Wales University Culinary Arts Museum, 315 Harborside Blvd., Providence. Those attending will can taste up to 50 microbrews, wines and spirits. Celebrity chefs will demonstrate cooking techniques and offer guests samples. Other snacks from area restaurants will be served. Raffle tickets for a seven-night cruise for two will be available for purchase during the event for $50 each. Fundraiser tickets: $50. COCKTAIL CELEBRATION
The James L. Maher Center will host its annual cocktail celebration from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Hyatt Regency Newport Hotel, 1 Goat Island, Newport. The evening includes food, drinks, live and silent auctions, raffles and entertainment by Paul DelNero and his jazz quartet. R.I. Sen. M. Teresa Paiva-Weed will be honored for her service to the center during the event. Tickets: $60. WATERFIRE FUNDRAISER
The sixth annual Ruth’s Chris Fundraiser to benefit WaterFire will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the restaurant, 10 Memorial Blvd., Providence. Guests can watch as the basins are lit shortly after sunset while enjoying hors d’oeuvres, a carving station, wine, beer and a special WaterFire cocktail. The event also features a live auction and guest appearances by WaterFire characters. Complimentary gondola rides will be available during the lighting. All proceeds will benefit WaterFire.
