A NOVEL EVENING
The Newport Public Library will host a fundraising event from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11 at the library on 300 Spring St., Newport. The event will feature hors d’oevures by Pranzi Catering, complimentary beer, wine and vodka bar with a live and silent auction. Proceeds will benefit the maintenance and enhancement of the library’s electronic resource materials. Cost: $75 per person. WET PAINT AUCTION
The Newport Art Museum hosts a fundraising event beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18 at the Griswold House, Newport Art Museum, 76 Bellevue Ave., Newport. The event will feature music by Larry Brown SwingLane Orchestra on the lawn and a silent auction in the museum until 4 p.m. followed by a live outdoor auction of 50 works of art beneath a tent with auctioneer Marie Keep of Skinner, Inc. The museum will be open free of charge throughout the event. A preview reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17. NORTH KINGSTOWN GOLF TOURNAMENT
The North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce will host its annual golf tournament beginning at 11:30 a.m. with a shot gun start at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 19th at Quidnessett Country Club, 950 North Quidnessett Road, North Kingstown. The event will feature a sit down luncheon and prime rib dinner with prizes for longest drive, closest to the pin for men and women, as well as first, second and third place foursome and recognition for the “most honest” team. Cost: $150 per golfer (includes 18 hole green fees with cart, lunch, and dinner); $40 per person; $70 couple. KENT HOSPITAL RACE/WALK
Kent Hospital will host the NK5K, a road race/walk beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 at North Kingstown High School, 150 Fairway Drive, North Kingstown. Participants will walk/run a 5k (3.1 miles) route through North Kingstown, beginning and ending at North Kingstown High School. A portion of funds raised will be donated to the North Kingstown School Department for the town’s high school sports and school extracurricular activities. The event will feature contests, raffles and lunch among other activities. An awards presentation will be held following the race. SCHWARTZ CENTER COMMUNITY WALK
The Schwartz Center for Children will host its 25th annual walk beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15 at Fort Taber, 1000c Rodney French Blvd., New Bedford. Participants can register individually or with a team to take part in a 3.5 mile loop. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m.; walk kicks off at 9:30 a.m. The event will feature food, live music and family-friendly activities. A trophy will be presented.
