CELEBRITY CLASSIC GOLF
Jeffrey Osborne and Magic Johnson will host the 2nd Annual Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic golf tournament beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at The Carnegie Abbey Club, 125 Corys Lane, Portsmouth. The event will benefit charities supporting initiatives to bring music and arts into public school systems and providing safe environments and services for families and children in need. The celebrity-amateur golf outing will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will conclude with a dinner gala at 7 p.m. at the club’s Tower pool area. The gala will feature presentations, silent auctions and live music from Jeffrey Osborne and other notable attendees. Cost: $500. NY TIMES AUTHOR DISCUSSION
Literacy Volunteers of Washington County will host a presentation by New York Times bestselling author Eben Alexander, M.D. from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Watch Hill Chapel, 5 Bluff Ave., Westerly on Tuesday, Aug. 13. Alexander will lead a discussion about afterlife and science sparked by his novel “Proof of Heaven.” A cocktail reception beginning at 7:45 p.m. at The Ocean House will follow the presentation. MUSEUM OF YACHTING REGATTA
The Museum of Yachting will host its 34th annual Classic Yacht Regatta Saturday, Aug. 31 and Sunday, Sept. 1 at Fort Adams State Park, 84 Fort Adams Drive, Newport. Vessels ranging from small traditional one-designs to large, majestic yachts built over a century ago will gather to race on each day with festivities to follow in the evening. The event’s traditional Classic Yacht Parade will take place on Sunday morning. The regatta will again be part of the North American Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. Cost: $50 awards dinner only; $250 includes boat registration entry fee and two dinner tickets. STRIDES FOR SOLDIERS

WOONY RIVER RIDE
