BENEFIT SHOW
The Women’s Resource Center will host an all-ages benefit show featuring performer Beth Hammond, better known as Lady-G, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13 at Newport Blues Café, 286 Thames St., Newport. The café will offer two-for-one entrees during the event. This family-friendly performance will feature a hands-on reptile show from Bwana Iguana Reptile Adventures, special appearances from Elmo and Cinderella, a dance contest along with pop star and superhero dress up activities. A raffle with prizes including custom artwork from local artists, gift baskets and gift certificates from area stores will also be held. Cost: $10 per person; $25/family (suggested donations). HOLIDAY FUNDRAISING EVENT
Horseplay Equine Rescue and Sanctuary will host a holiday event from 12 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec 15 and Dec 22 at 143 Gilbert Stuart Road, Saunderstown. During the event, children and pets can have their photo taken with Santa and participate in pony rides at the sanctuary. Refreshments and gifts will be available for purchase. HOLIDAY BLOOD DRIVE
NBC 10, Coast 93.3 and the Rhode Island Blood Center will host a holiday blood drive from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 801 Greenwich Ave., Warwick. All who donate will receive a free pound of coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts. HOME & HOSPICE BENEFIT SHOW
AS220 will host a benefit show for Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island at 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27 at the AS220 Concert Hall, 15 Empire St., Providence. The event will feature performances from The Remover, Lies In Motion and Faceless Mouse. Proceeds from the event will support Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, the second oldest hospice in the nation and the largest and most experienced hospice agency in the state. ADOPT THE SPOT
The AIDE Foundation will be accepting donations for its charity gardening program for the calendar year beginning Jan. 1, 2014 on its website. Through this program, gardeners adopt a four-by-10-foot planting space, along with seeds and materials needed to grow food for their families in need. The adoptee’s name will be put on a wood plaquard that will be placed in the spot for that year. Designated plots will be setup at greenhouses located at Hunts Mill in East Providence. Cost: $40 (includes compost, mulch, basic gardening tools, area maintenance). Cost may vary since the exact cost depends on plant and supply costs.
