The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will host a bike ride beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Sakonnet Vineyards, Little Compton. Participants can cycle at their own pace on one of two mileage routes: 62 (Metric Century) or 25 miles along the scenic back roads and main streets of Little Compton, Tiverton and Westport. The ride will be fully supported with well-stocked rest stops, bike support from Providence Bicycle, ride marshals, breakfast, lunch, beer garden by Narragansett Beer and much more. Participants must be 18 or older. Bike helmets are required to ride. $45 to register; registration begins at 8 a.m. $200 fundraising minimum. Prizes will be awarded. The Chorus of Westerly will host a benefit performance at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 at the George Kent Performance Hall, 119 High St., Westerly. Soloist Kevin Short accompanied by pianist Melissa Woolverton, will perform a variety of songs from different musical genres. His repertoire includes the music of Copland, Vaughan Williams, Finzi, Johnson, H.T. Burliegh, Dougherty, and songs from Showboat, Porgy and Bess, and Carousel. Proceeds from the event will support the Chorus’s 55th concert season, which includes a classical concert series with full orchestra and soloists. The Rhode Island chapter of the National MS Society will host a jet pull beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 at T.F. Green Airport, 2000 Post Road, Warwick. Teams of 25 will pull a FedEx 757 aircraft across the tarmac in one of five two-hour waves. Those who would like to participate but do not think they can create a team of 25 may register as individuals and be placed on a team. Registration: $50, plus additional $50 fundraising minimum per participant. Spectator admission: $10 adults, $5 children 12 and younger. Children younger than 3 years will be admitted for free. Spectator tickets include access to all activities and post-pull barbecue. The American Cancer Society will host “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6 at the Rhode Island Convention Center, 1 Sabin St., Providence. This three-mile walk, which takes place in the heart of downtown Providence, will raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. in the convention center. Eating with the Ecosystem will host its first fundraiser cruise aboard the Schooner Aurora from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 6. The two-hour sunset sail will feature hor d'oeuvres and cocktails, fish donated by local fishermen and prepared by local restaurants. Attendees will be joined by several local experts to learn about how climate change is affecting our regional oceans and how the local seafood market can adapt to these changes to keep the fishing industry going for the future. All proceeds from the event will support Eating with the Ecosystem's efforts to bring together community-based commercial fishermen, groundbreaking marine ecologists, and innovative chefs to develop a local seafood diet that takes its cue from our changing marine ecosystems. The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation and the University of Rhode Island will host a 5K fundraiser beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the North Beach Pavilion, 79 Boston Neck Road, Narragansett. Participants are encouraged to wear costumres. There will be a post-race celebration from 1:30 to 3 p.m with a DJ, kids dash, face painting, overall finisher awards, and craft beer at the finish line. Ernie “D” DiGregorio, former NBA player and Providence College basketball star, will serve as master of ceremonies. Check-in begins at 11:30. Children’s Wishes will host the fourth annual Amazing Wish Race beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 19 at the Children’s Wishes office 2346 Post Road, Suite 102, Warwick. Teams of up to four will compete in challenges taking place at certain locations in Rhode Island during this unique scavenger hunt hosted by Louie Stravato of TV’s The Amazing Race. All proceeds will benefit Children’s Wishes, a nonprofit organization that grants wishes to terminally ill children. The event will conclude with an after-party at Grid Iron Ale House & Grille.
