Pawtucket Credit Union wants its 205 employees to be well and feel well – even to the point of helping prevent mental stress that money problems can cause.

Ann Bernier, vice president of human resources, said, “our group health history has been excellent, and I like to think that is partly because of our wellness programs.”

Medical claims were so reasonable over the past few years, Bernier said, that the company decided to become self-insured. The credit union’s employee health program goes back at least 15 years, Bernier said, to basic tables with brochures.

Now the program includes a yearly fair with lots of information and on-site screenings, and periodic talks from experts. Employees have access to resources for specialized problems like addictions. Everyone can get a free flu shot.

As an employee, Bernier said, “The credit union is concerned about my well-being. … I know it appreciates me.” n
