WOONSOCKET – The R.I. Department of Health and the R.I. Office of Attorney General will hold a public informational meeting regarding the proposed sale of Landmark Medical Center to Prime Healthcare Services on Sept.30.
The meeting will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Woonsocket High School at 777 Cass Ave., just down the street from the hospital.
Since June of 2008, Landmark has been under the management of court-appointed Special Master Jonathan N. Savage. The bid by Prime Healthcare, a for-profit hospital network based in Ontario, Calif., is the latest in the five-year saga to find a buyer for the financially troubled hospital.
Steward Health Care Systems, a for-profit hospital network from Boston, Mass., withdrew its bid in September of 2012, after receiving permission from state regulators to purchase Landmark.
By comparison, Westerly Hospital went into receivership in December of 2011 and was sold to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in 2013. Also, Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island recently joined the Care New England hospital network, the deal closing on Sept. 3.
CharterCARE announced its intention on March 21 to partner with Prospect Medical Holdings, a for-profit health care services company in California. •
