PROVIDENCE – The Polaris Manufacturing Extension Partnership will receive $750,000 in federal funding to continue its programming.
U.S. Senators Jack F. Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse announced the award of the federal grant on Wednesday. Polaris, a business unit of the University of Rhode Island Foundation, is a nonprofit organization that creates and provides business improvement programs aimed at the state’s manufacturing industry.
The funds were awarded by the U.S. Department of Commerce, as part of its National Institute of Standards and Technology Manufacturing Extension Partnership program. The network of MEP centers provide manufacturers with resources to improve competitiveness, including access to training and technology, according to a news release.
Polaris MEP, based in Providence, provides both on-site and one-on-one training for manufacturers, including in “lean manufacturing” processes.
