Providence Center gets BJ’s grant

The Providence Center has received a $5,000 grant from the BJ’s Charitable Foundation, which will be used to support Home Base.
The program provides more than 200 chronically homeless people each year with comprehensive primary care, mental health, substance abuse and coordination services. At least a quarter of those served are also provided with permanent supported housing and 10 percent are veterans.
“When the chronically homeless have a place to call home and the support they need to improve their lives the outcomes are dramatic,” said Dale K. Klatzker, president and CEO of The Providence Center. “We’re grateful to BJs for helping us to make a difference in the lives of these vulnerable Rhode Islanders.”
The BJ’s Charitable Foundation is dedicated to supporting hunger prevention, self sufficiency, health care and education in the communities surrounding our Clubs, added Jessica Newman, the foundation’s executive director.
“BJ’s Charitable Foundation donated a total of $709,625 to 112 nonprofit charitable organizations across our footprint during this grant cycle, and we hope these donations benefit the incredible efforts of our partners working to impact the lives of individuals and families and enable them to continue to provide crucial services to those in need,” she said.
The Providence Center works to meet the changing needs of the more than 12,000 people served each year. Since The Providence Center opened its doors in 1969, it has been a community fixture, providing people from all walks of life with mental health and substance use services in their homes, schools and neighborhoods.
In addition to comprehensive high-quality behavioral health services, The Providence Center gives people the tools they need to succeed. Thirty-nine programs and wrap around services include food and housing, job training, legal services, primary health care and wellness activities.
