PROVIDENCE – Two city schools received $40,000 from the Verizon Foundation to support the use of innovative technology in the classroom to support science, technology, engineering and math education.
Carl Lauro Elementary School and Harry Kizirian Elementary School each received a $20,000 Verizon Innovative Learning Grant from the Verizon Foundation on Jan. 27.
The schools were among 100 schools or districts across the country that received grants.
In partnership with Highlander Institute, both schools will be able to provide professional development opportunities and work with teachers to support the use of technology in the classroom. The program at Carl Lauro Elementary School will focus on blended learning in grades 3-5 and the program at Harry Kizirian Elementary School will target blended learning in mathematics instruction. Blended learning incorporates Web-based online learning.
