PROVIDENCE – On a par with Boston and Honolulu, Providence has been ranked a “notable” domestic city for its dining out scene by Saveur, a food and travel magazine with an international scope.
Providence also fit into the notable category, which includes 10 different cities in North America, for “best cocktails and drinks” in the publication’s Culinary Travel Awards 2014.
Saveur’s experts listed New Orleans as the top domestic small city – one with a population of less than 800,000 – for dining and restaurants while readers chose Portland, Ore. Cities characterized as “outstanding” included Charleston, S.C.; Seattle and Oaxaca, Mexico. Besides Providence, Boston and Honolulu, the other seven cities listed as notable for dining included Asheville, N.C.; Atlanta; Louisville, Ky., Minneapolis; Portland, Maine; Washington, D.C.; and Vancouver, British Columbia.

Las Vegas was chosen by experts for having the best cocktails and drinks domestically, with readers picking Portland, Ore. Listed as outstanding were Chicago, New York and San Francisco. Among the 10 notable cities listed for best cocktails and drinks were Austin, Texas; Burlington, Vt.; Denver; Houston; Los Angeles; Minneapolis; Nashville, Tenn.; New Orleans; and Montreal.

“Once again, we are very pleased to be recognized in Saveur, an influential publication at the intersection of food and travel,” said Martha Sheridan, president and CEO of the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau. “When marketing Providence, we emphasize the quality of food and drink in our destination, so we are delighted to see both praised on an international level.”
“When you combine our award-winning food scene with the city’s great beverage options, it’s a perfect pairing,” she added.
