PROVIDENCE – Looking for a job this fall? Dallas is the place to be. Providence, not so much.

Forbes listed the best and worst cities for jobs this fall, saying that the job market is slowly improving for job seekers.

Dallas ranked the best among 14 “top cities for jobs” with a net employment outlook of 27 percent for the fourth quarter.

In the worst cities ranking, Providence ranked fourth, in a four-way tie with Hartford, Conn.; Albany, N.Y.; and Spokane, Wash. They all had a fourth quarter net employment outlook of 6 percent. The worst city for jobs this fall was Akron, Ohio, with a negative 2 percent employment outlook.

Net employment outlook was calculated by subtracting the percentage of employers anticipating a decrease in staff from the employers anticipating an increase. In measuring employment outlook, recruiting and consulting firm ManpowerGroup surveyed approximately 18,000 U.S. employers.

The information is based on ManpowerGroup’s employment outlook survey released Wednesday. The survey reports that U.S. employers are reporting the strongest employment since the first quarter of 2008, with some markets showing particular optimism about the end of 2014.
