Providence schools launch biotech lab

PROVIDENCE – A ribbon-cutting marking the opening of a new biotechnology laboratory at the Juanita Sanchez Educational Complex high school was recently held.

In attendance were Providence Schools Superintendent Susan Lusi, Mayor Jorge Elorza, representatives of the University of Rhode Island, and JSEC students and staff.

The new lab is designed and equipped to mirror the labs at biotechnology firms and universities. It was funded by a federal Carl Perkins grant and the Career and Technical Education Categorical Fund created by the Rhode Island General Assembly.
