NORTH KINGSTOWN – In the past two weeks, the Quonset Business Park set two records, one on land and the other at sea, according to a release from the Quonset Development Corporation.

Wednesday, more than 4,100 automobiles arrived on two incoming car carriers, the largest number of autos imported on a single day in the history of the Port of Davisville.

According to the QDC release, nearly 3,200 cars and trucks arrived on the K Line “Shanghai Highway” vessel, with another 900 arriving on NYK’s “Rhea Leader.”

“We still have more ships coming in, but when you combine these numbers with our growing rail business, you can understand why we are excited about the momentum we have going into 2013,” QDC Managing Director Steven King said in a statement.

On Dec. 10, the largest inbound train carrying general cargo ever arrived at the business park. More than 80 rail cars deep, the train delivered mixed freight to various Quonset tenants before heading to the Port of Davisville.

“With more and more companies coming to Quonset and the QDC investing in major infrastructure improvements, we’re seeing a growing customer base take advantage of the rail access at the park,” Eric Moffet of Seaview Transportation, which operates the park’s railroad, said in a statement.

“You put this location together with the rail, port and trucking access at Quonset and companies are starting to realize there are not many better places to position themselves for success,” Moffet added.

According to the development corporation, the Quonset Business Park is home to more than 165 companies and 8,800 full- and part-time jobs.
