RBS’ Van Saun to keynote<Br> at banking conference

PROVIDENCE – RBS Citizens Chairman and CEO Bruce Van Saun is scheduled to be one of the keynote speakers at the Retail Banking 2014 conference in Orlando, Fla., which runs from March 12-14, according to the Providence-based bank.
Van Saun will be the March 13 keynote speaker on the topic “Emerging Opportunity for Regional Banks to Lead in the New Paradigm.”
Van Saun took the helm of Providence-based RBS Citizens in October after four years in the United Kingdom helping parent Royal Bank of Scotland dig out of near collapse with a $70 billion government bailout. RBS Citizens is preparing to take 25 percent of its business public toward the end of 2014, with October likely the prime month for the IPO, Van Saun has said. Citizens announced it expects to be fully public by the end of 2016.
The 19-year-old banking conference was formerly known as Best Practices in Retail Financial Services and has been rebranded this year a Retail Banking 2014, according to the conference website.
“With the new name comes a new focus on the issues keeping bankers up at night – growth, branch utilization, digital banking, analytics, evolution of social media and new regulations governing banking,” according to American Banker’s conference website.
