PROVIDENCE – Applications are being accepted for the Rhode Island Business Plan Competition, which is expected to award approximately $200,000 to winners and finalists in May.
The 2016 competition is open to anyone 18 and older. Those interested can apply online at www.ri-bizplan.com.
“As the largest, community-supported business plan competition in New England, we encourage people from all walks of life with an innovative business idea to apply,” Peter Lowy, executive director of the Rhode Island Business Plan Competition, said in a statement. “Since the judges will only review applications after the March 28 deadline to apply, applicants should take time to carefully make their case.”

After reviewing applications, the judges will invite selected applicants to submit plans as semi-finalists. Finalists will be drawn from this pool of candidates and meet individually with the judges. Then in May, winners will be announced at an event sponsored by the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce.
Since it was established in 2000, the Rhode Island Business Plan Competition has awarded more than $1.8 million in prizes.
