The Rhode Island Blood Center’s 2012-2013 Seasons’ Pass print was recently unveiled at a press conference, where supporters got their first look at East Greenwich artist Cindy Baron’s painting of waves crashing onto a rocky shoreline.
Baron, who calls her painting “Breakthrough,” says its theme centers on transforming the spirit, just as medical breakthroughs and hope can. Baron is a survivor of several surgeries and a blood recipient.
Prints of her painting are now being distributed to those who participated in the center’s Seasons’ Pass program by donating blood four or more times a year, or by sponsoring a blood drive four or more times a year. Individuals receive prints and sponsors receive framed prints.
Now in its 11th year, it is estimated that the program has resulted in nearly 50,000 additional blood donations.
During the press conference, the blood center also announced that Christine McIntyre-Hannon of Scituate would serve as next year’s Seasons’ Pass artist. Her work will be unveiled in March 2014. •
