PROVIDENCE – The 2016 Rhode Island Business Plan Competition will kick off on Oct. 15, with last year’s three winners sharing their experiences and what it took to win.
The launch, which will be held at Tech Collective, marks six months of free events intended to educate attendees about creating business plans that will win the attention of investors.
Last year’s winners took home $200,000 in prizes. Winners are announced in May; those interested in participating in the competition can submit applications starting Nov. 1.
The event will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. at 166 Valley St., Building 3. The event is free to the public, but registration is required.
New this year is a Medical Technology Award, consisting of cash and services, that will recognize an existing or proposed med-tech company working toward a solution that will have significant impact on improving lives while also reducing some strain on the health care system, according to information from the competition.
In addition, prizes will be awarded in the Entrepreneur Track, open to anyone age 18 or over, and Student Track, open to students age 18 and over who are enrolled at an accredited college or university.
The Business Plan Competition also has expanded the number of events it will host this year. All will be held at Tech Collective, starting at 5:30 p.m. Information can be found HERE.
Competition Co-Chair Peggy Farrell, partner in the law firm of Hinckley Allen & Snyder LLP, said, “Startup and emerging companies are critical to the future economic vitality of Rhode Island, and the competition is all about fostering the next generation of businesses. Many applicants tell us that participating in the competition helped them launch their businesses, and we recognize and appreciate that this happens only because of the support of many organizations across Rhode Island.”
Lead sponsors of the competition are Focus Vision Media, Hinckley Allen and KLR.
