R.I. EMA unveils new site

CRANSTON – Curious if your property is in a floodplain? Now, that question is easier to find out, thanks to the R.I. Emergency Management Agency’s revamped website.
The agency unveiled the new website last week in coordination with the R.I. Division of Information Technology and RI.gov.
The website, according to spokesman Alex Ambrosius, fits the state’s new website format and also is “more mobile-device friendly.” The previous website design was not as easy to use on a mobile device, he said.
The new website allows users to plug in an address on the homepage to find out if their home, business or another structure is in or near a floodplain.
“Our new website is much cleaner and easier to use,” Director Peter Gaynor said in a statement. “Highlighting the R.I. Floodplain Mapping Tool is critical, especially during this time of year, as it is typically our flooding season. We urge Rhode Islanders to be aware about your home and whether or not it’s located in a floodplain. If you are unsure you can use the tool to find out.”
While the previous website had the floodplain mapping tool, it is now more accessible and easier to use, officials said.
Different sections also were created for businesses, emergency management officials, citizens and government employees.
RIEMA also has updated much of the content and has added new features, such as information on cybersecurity and critical infrastructure.
