R.I. Hospital gets funding for Israeli collaboration

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island Hospital last month was the recipient of an investment made by the U.S.-Israel Binational Industrial Research and Development Foundation.
The foundation’s board approved $8.3 million in funding for 11 new projects between U.S. and Israeli companies, according to a press release. Rhode Island Hospital is collaborating in one of the projects with the Tel Aviv-based company Timocco to develop a web and mobile therapeutic game platform for child physiotherapy, according to the release.
“We conclude another very successful year of joint U.S.-Israel innovation nurtured by the BIRD Foundation,” said Dr. Eitan Yudilevich, executive director of the BIRD Foundation.
The 11 approved projects bring the BIRD Foundations total amount of projects to more than 900 projects over its 37 year history, bringing its investment to more than $300 million, according to the release.
‘The number of applications submitted to the BIRD Foundation has been growing steadily and remarkably in the last years,” said Avi Hasson, co-chairman of BIRD’s board. “The steady demand by the U.S. and Israeli companies attest to the vitality of the Foundation and the central role of the industrial partnerships in the U.S-Israel relationship.”
The BIRD Foundation provides support of up to 50 percent of a project’s budget, or up to $1 million, according to the release. The Foundation supports projects without receiving any rights in the participating companies or in the project itself.
