R.I. Military Organization lounge opens at T.F. Green

At today's dedication of the new T.F. Green Airport military lounge, R.I. Airport Corp. President & CEO Kelly Fredericks is hiding behind the flag, next to Adjudent Gen. PROVIDENCE - The Rhode Island Military Organization lounge officially opened at T.F. Green Airport today.
Supported and run by community volunteers, the lounge will offer military men and women a place to relax between flights.
“The new military lounge at T.F. Green Airport sends a message beyond our borders that Rhode Island is a caring place that when we see a need for our brave men and women in uniform and Veterans we address it,” said Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee at the dedication of the lounge.
The R.I. Airport Corporation donated the space on the second floor of the airport. Grants and donations from the Rhode Island State Senate, the Coventry/West Greenwich Elks Lodge #2285, Capital City Construction & Management Services Inc., Barbara Dardeen, and other local business and individuals also contributed to the project's success, according to a release by a the R.I. Airport Corporation.
The Rhode Island Realtors Association purchased the large-screen television and a refrigerator for the lounge, while Pepsi and the Girl Scouts have also donated beverages and snacks.
“The generosity and support we have received from the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, numerous donors and countless volunteers will continue the success of the military lounge at T. F. Green Airport for many years to come,” said Lori Ashness, Vice Chair of the R.I. Military Organization. “Having the airport lounge will be a comfort to servicemen and women traveling on behalf of our country.”
The lounge will be staffed by volunteers from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day. Transportation and lodging information will also available there for military members who need assistance.
