University of Rhode Island Athletics and The Ryan Center recently partnered with South County Hospital, Bank Rhode Island and the Rams Zone to present a $4,256.29 donation to support the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation’s cancer research efforts.
“Working with URI and South County Hospital over the years has been amazing. Now, with the addition of BankRI, a true dream team has been formed.” said Gary Calvino, director of development for the Gloria Gemma Foundation. “We’d like to thank URI Athletics for all the hard work they put into this event every year to make sure it is a success.”
The donation was presented at URI’s annual Pink Out, an event in which the university’s sports teams show support and promote breast cancer awareness by wearing pink T-shirts and decorating the arena in pink. This year’s Pink Out was held during the men’s basketball team’s game against Xavier University on Feb. 20.
During the past seven years, URI Athletics has raised nearly $60,000 for the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation. •
