PROVIDENCE – A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. will examine all aspects of the R.I. State Police’s policy and procedures, management, operations and support services later this month as part of a so-called “Gold Standard Assessment,” the final step in the department’s Accreditation with Excellence reaccreditation process.
Verification by the team that the department meets the commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to maintain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence. The R.I. State Police received initial accreditation status in 1994. The department has maintained compliance with evolving standards to meet current law enforcement and public-safety needs.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to provide comments to the assessment team. They may do so by calling in-state at (401) 444-1058 on Aug. 18, between the hours of 2-4 p.m.
