PAWTUCKET – One of the city’s oldest manufacturing companies, Rhode Island Textile Co., will relocate to a consolidated facility in Cumberland, according to a company executive.
The move to a 240,000-square-foot facility at 35 Martin St. in Cumberland will allow the company to grow its retail services division. The company, founded in 1913, is a manufacturer of narrow fabrics, for parachute cord, shoelaces and other applications. It also is a manufacturer of pet treats and supplies.
Rhode Island Textile Co. purchased the building in Cumberland for about $5.5 million in November 2015, according to Fred Nunes, the company’s vice president and general manager. It had previously leased a portion of the building for warehousing. The move from Pawtucket to the new facility is ongoing.
The company received no public incentives for the relocation.
Rhode Island Textile Co. employs 400 in the U.S. and about 150 in Rhode Island, according to Nunes.

Its Pawtucket manufacturing facilities are listed at a combined $1.91 million by MG Commercial Real Estate Services Inc., although two of the three production buildings this week were either under contract or heading to contract.
In Pawtucket, its largest manufacturing building at 211 Columbus Ave., covering 83,862 square feet in two levels, is under contract, according to George Paskalis, executive vice president at MG Commercial. Another industrial building, an insulated metal structure of 13,650-square-feet, is going to contract with a different buyer, he said.
Paskalis did not identify the entities planning to purchase the properties. A third facility, at 173 Columbus Ave., remains available.
