R.I. branch of ACS CAN to host 3rd annual breakfast

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island chapter of the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network will host its third annual breakfast meeting on Oct. 14 to convene thought leaders, medical professionals and cancer survivors from across the state to address the need for increased funding of cancer research.

Co-sponsored by Ocean State Job Lot, the event’s discussions will center on the idea that Congress should increase federal funding of cancer research, a disease that, according to the organization, kills approximately 1,630 people each day.

Among those speaking at the breakfast will be Lt. Governor Daniel McKee.

Former Lt. Governor and chairman of this year’s event, Bernard Jackvony, said the coalition of Rhode Island businesses in attendance will send this message to Congress: “In order to save lives and improve our economy, we must continue to support federally funded cancer research.”
