R.I. companies among top U.S. residential real estate brokers

PROVIDENCE – Two Rhode Island companies – the Randall Family of Companies and Residential Properties Ltd. – have been ranked among the nation’s top residential real estate brokers by sales volume in the 2014 Real Trends 500 list.

Real Trends 500 is an annual compilation of a nationwide study of leading residential real estate companies conducted by Real Trends, a real estate research, publishing and communications company based in Denver.

The Randall Family of Companies, which includes Randall Realtors, Kinlin Grover Real Estate and Page Taft, ranked No. 134 in the country with $1.1 billion in sales last year and also ranked No. 214 by sales activity with 2,874 completed transactions.

Last year marked the second consecutive year that the company achieved more than $1 billion in sales, according to a news release.

“It’s an honor to once again be ranked among the top residential real estate companies in the country,” said Douglas Randall, CEO of the Randall Family of Companies, which is headquartered in Charlestown. “Our agents consistently earn top marks on customer satisfaction surveys. Our growth is due to their efforts and the customer referrals that come as a result of their hard work.”

Residential Properties Ltd., based in Providence, ranked No. 280 by sales volume, posting $602 million in sales in 2013, and ranked No. 443 by sale activity with 1,592 transactions. Residential Properties is Rhode Island’s largest independent real estate broker, the company said, currently employing 170 sales associates in five offices throughout the state.

In addition to Randall and Residential Properties, three Rhode Island Re/Max companies – Re/Max Preferred, Re/Max Town & Country and Re/Max Properties – made the Real Trends 500 ranking by sales activity. Headquartered in North Providence, the Re/Max companies completed 1,598 transactions last year, ranking No. 439 nationwide, but did not rank in the top 500 for sales volume, which totaled $307 million.

Other Rhode Island companies recognized as “up-and-comers” on the 2014 Real Trends 500 list were Keller Williams Realty of Cranston, Re/Max 1st Choice of Cranston, Re/Max Professionals of East Greenwich and Re/Max River’s Edge of Barrington.

According to Real Trends, the 500 largest residential real estate brokerage firms in the nation (less than three-fifths of a percent of all brokerage firms) controlled just over two million residential sales transactions in 2013, representing close to 32.6 percent of all new and resale transactions completed by brokers during the year.

The 500 ranked brokers closed 2,577,483 home transactions with a value of over $767 billion during 2013, an increase over the $624 billion in sales volume for 2012.
